Brave activist Vicky Phelan has revealed that her cancer has returned, prompting a flood of good wishes.

In a series of posts on Twitter, Ms Phelan said that her cancer is growing slowly and in addition to the growth in three tumors, she has developed a new 3mm tumor in one of her lungs.

“I knew this day would come and that Pembro would stop holding all my tumors at bay,” he said.

“But I am very happy that I fought for Pembro.

“It has given me almost three years of a quality of life that I would never have expected with chemotherapy.”

He said he is actively researching options and that aside from bouts of extreme tiredness at times, he said he is very lucky not to report any other symptoms at this time.

He also vowed to continue the campaign for a court that meets the needs of women and families affected by the CervicalCheck scandal.

Ms. Phelan was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2014, three years after receiving an incorrect smear test result that did not detect any abnormalities.

In 2018, the Health Service Executive confirmed that just over 206 women developed cervical cancer after receiving an incorrect CervicalCheck smear test result.

Ms Phelan said that cancer, which primarily affects young women with families, cannot be cured and noted that the state admitted to failing these women when it issued a state apology last year.

“They pledged to provide an alternative to Superior Court for affected women and families to correct the grievances they have been caused through the CervicalCheck failures,” she said.

“The State, through Minister Stephen Donnelly, must do the right thing for these women and families.” “Listen to our concerns and address the needs of women and families with grace and compassion.

“Honor those who have passed away, including Ruth, Emma, Orla, Julie and stop the cycle of state protection or you will fail these women a second time.”
