Activist Vicky Phelan has confirmed that her cancer has grown and is committed to continuing her fight for justice for those affected by the Cervical Check scandal.

The heroic mother of two revealed today that a new tumor has unfortunately developed in her lung while praising a miracle drug she rigorously campaigned for.

Ms. Phelan was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2014, after receiving an incorrect smear result that did not detect any abnormalities in 2011.

On social media, he wrote: “So I’ve been waiting to share news that my cancer is growing (slowly, thankfully). I needed time to take in this news and for my family and friends to take it in as well.

“In addition to the growth in three tumors, I have developed a new tumor (tiny – 3 mm) in my lung.

“I knew this day would come and that Pembro would stop holding all my tumors at bay. But I am so glad I fought for Pembro. It has given me almost 3 years of a quality of life that I never would have expected for chemotherapy.

“I am actively researching options at the moment, and aside from bouts of extreme tiredness at times, I am very lucky not to report any other symptoms at this time.”

The defiant activist went on to say that despite the disturbing diagnosis she will continue to campaign as she paid tribute to other victims of the CervicalCheck scandal.

“I will continue to campaign with him @ 221plus by a Court that addresses the needs of women and families affected by the #CervicalCheck scandal because one of our main requests is focused on serving women who suffer recidivism, like me.

“This cancer is NOT curable. It mainly affects young women with families. The state admitted failing these women in a state apology last year.

They pledged to provide an alternative to Superior Court for affected women and families to correct the grievances that have been caused to them through the CervicalCheck failures. The State, through Minister Stephen Donnelly, must do the RIGHT thing on the part of these women and families.

“Hear our concerns and address the needs of women and families with grace and compassion. Honor those who have passed away including Ruth, Emma, Orla, Julie and stop the cycle of protection of the State or you will fail these women for a second hour.
