The 38-year-old heir to the throne contracted the virus in April, days after the father, Prince Charles, and the prime minister, Boris Johnson, were assassinated.

William told an observer at an engagement: “Big things were happening and I didn’t want to worry anyone.”

The duke was treated by palace physicians and followed government guidelines by isolating himself at the Anmer Hall family home in Norfolk.

Surprisingly, he made 14 engagements by phone and video calls during April.

‘AS USUAL’

A source said: “William was hit quite a bit by the virus – he actually left six.”

“At one point, he was struggling to breathe, so obviously everyone around him was quite scared.

“After seeing the doctors and testing positive, which was obviously a huge shock given how fit and healthy he is, William decided he should continue as usual.

“He was determined to keep his commitments.”

“The Queen gave her ‘We will meet again’ speech, and she just didn’t want to worry people.

“He felt that more important things were happening in the country.

“But as a result of his own experiences, he realizes that absolutely anyone can get this terrible disease, and he knows how imperative it is that we all take this second block seriously.”

Important things were happening and he didn’t want to worry anyone.

Together with his wife Kate, the couple told the presenter that they wanted to give him “a hug” in the wake of the battle for her husband’s health.

The Cambridge family said they were touched by her experience and how it had impacted her and her children Darcey, 14, and Billy, 11.

Prince Charles was isolated for two weeks in March with mild symptoms, while Boris spent three nights in the ICU after being hospitalized on April 5.
