Prince William fought the coronavirus in April and kept it a secret so as not to alarm the people of Britain, according to reports.
The Duke of Cambridge followed government guidelines and isolated himself at home, but was said to have been “quite affected by the virus.”
He was treated by palace doctors but kept his diagnosis secret because he did not want to cause alarm, according to reports.
Prince William reportedly did not want to worry people, following the news of his father’s diagnosis, as well as that of Boris Johnson.
A source told the Sun: “William was hit pretty hard by the virus – it really hit him for six.”
“At one point, he was struggling to breathe, so obviously everyone around him was quite scared.
“After seeing the doctors and testing positive, which was obviously a huge shock given how fit and healthy he is, William decided he should continue as usual.”
Prince William is believed to have suffered from Covid-19 days after his father, Prince Charles, also battled the virus.
It is said that he still managed to make 14 commitments by phone and video calls during April.
A source said he was determined to honor his commitments.
The news comes after Prince William told TV host Kate Garraway that he and his wife wanted to give him a hug after learning of their family’s Covid nightmare.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were visibly moved when the Good Morning Britain host recounted how her husband Derek is still seriously ill in hospital seven months after being struck by the coronavirus.
They listened to her attentively as she spoke of the impact the disease has had on her family and how her sons Darcey, 14, and Billy, 11, still can’t see it because Covid rules only allow one visitor for each patient.
William said: “Yet you are doing amazingly. If it weren’t for social distancing, we’d both give you a hug. “
Kate also spoke about how William’s father, Prince Charles, had been diagnosed with Covid at the same time as her husband in March.
William said, “Yes, my father had it very early.”
