The Cork City Fire Department had to deal with a car that caught fire in the Togher area of the city last night while a large gang of young people were staging fireworks battles.
A video circulating on social media shows a crowd of teenagers getting into a car before it is set on fire in an area of Togher known locally as “la Wella.”
The Cork City Fire Brigade had to dispatch crews from Ballyvolane Station to deal with the burning car, one night when Storm Aiden put great pressure on our emergency services.
A Garda spokesperson has confirmed to CorkBeo that teams from the Togher Garda station responded to reports from locals of severe antisocial behavior in the Tramore Road area last night.
An arrest was made.
“Gardaí attended a public order incident on Tramore Road, Togher, at approximately 9:15 pm last night, Saturday 31 S t October”.
“A man in his 20s was arrested.”
A local witness told CorkBeo that a large gang of youths had been setting off “tons of fireworks” in the area and that many residents saw flames and smoke from the burning car.
Videos circulating widely on social media in Cork show Gardai responding quickly and energetically with several trucks dispatched to clear the area.
Gangs of youth participated in a “fireworks battle” in a tunnel underneath the main Tramore road, next to a river sewer in an area that is popular with people who exercise during the lockdown.
A silver saloon enters the crowd, young people are seen jumping on top of the car and crushing it before it is driven into the sewer and set on fire.
* CorkBeo has blurred faces and social media usernames in this video due to youth involvement and the events are likely part of an ongoing Gardai investigation.
