The ESB says it is making good progress in restoring power to homes and businesses affected by Storm Aiden.

It has reduced the number of customers without power to less than 1,000 in County Donegal.

A new yellow wind warning will go into effect tonight, in relation to Donegal, Galway and May.

The 130-kilometer-per-hour passengers were logged earlier at Malin Head in Donegal, while 115-kilometer-per-hour gusts were recorded at Belmullet in May.

Highway Safety Authority spokesman Brian Farrell says drivers should exercise caution when on the roads tonight. “Obviously, you should slow down if you’re driving. Also, you should leave extra distance between you and the vehicle in front, so you can safely locate if you need to be in a hurry.

“There are also the dangers of hydroplaning and the possibility of finding roads flooded or damaged,” he said.

Farrell advises people to slow down and “expect the unexpected” tonight.
