Most counties in Ireland have seen a significant drop in the number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the last 24 hours.

Only 416 new infections were confirmed on Saturday, and a staggering 19 counties saw their daily numbers drop.

But tragically, five more people lost their lives after being diagnosed with the deadly virus.

Speaking as Ireland recorded a drop of 356 cases since Friday, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Tony Holohan said: “We are making progress on suppressing the current rise in COVID-19.

Dr. Tony Holohan, Medical Director.

“Ireland is currently one of four EU countries with a 7 day reduction in incidence. Nationally, our breeding numbers have dropped to about 1.0.

“We are working collectively to achieve repression, but it is too early to ease our efforts.

“The incidence is decreasing in young adults but continues to increase in those older than 75 years.

“We have more to do, but we are on the right track.”
