Michael Conlan’s proposed world title eliminator against Isaac Dogboe on December 5 is canceled after the Belfast featherweight revealed that he tore ankle ligaments in his right leg earlier this week.

Conlan was said to be getting closer to a fight against the Ghanaian-British fighter, the former WBO super bantamweight champion, as he looked to advance his claims to fight for a world title next year.

But he wrote on Twitter: “Absolutely devastated to announce that I will no longer fight on December 5 due to my ATFL breaking during a training session on Wednesday, at home now recovering.

“Doc said I’ll be out for 8-12 weeks, but I’ll be back sooner, just watch!”

The 28-year-old former world amateur champion is undefeated in 14 professional fights and was last in action against Sofiane Takoucht in August.

Conlan, who won Olympic bronze in London 2012, was due to drop four pounds from featherweight in a bid to establish a world title in 2021.
