Gardai has located a man in his 30s whom officers plan to speak to in connection with the death of a 37-year-old mother and her two children.

The woman’s body was discovered in an upstairs bedroom when Gardaí from the Armed Response Unit entered her home at Llywellen Court, Ballinteer, shortly before noon.

The bodies of her children, an 11-year-old girl and a six-year-old boy, were found in another bedroom.

Gardaí located a man who was well known to the tragic trio, but has not been detained.

“This individual is a person of great interest in the case, but Gardaí continues to keep an open mind in this investigation. There may be other possibilities, but this does not seem very likely at this time, “said a senior source.

“Gardaí was looking for him and has located him but has not yet been arrested,” the source said.

Officers called Ballinteer’s home shortly after 11:30 a.m. when neighbors contacted Gardaí to tell them they were concerned for the family.

It is understood that when Gardaí arrived at the scene, the house was overflowing with water after a faucet was turned on in an upstairs bathroom.

The family is of Indian origin and had just moved to the town earlier this year.

Meanwhile, tonight a candlelight vigil of around 100 residents gathered on a green near the family home.

Mary Byrne, president of the local residents association, said: “It was important to have the vigil today because there are so many children living here, so it is very sad.

“Due to the covid, the children did not come out to mix as they normally would.

“Everyone is heartbroken. This brought our community closer together.

“They seemed to be very reserved people. It is very sad “.

Dundrum Independent Councilor Sean McLoughlin said: “Our community is united as one. Everyone is devastated.

“We are in unprecedented times and we had to go out to unite.

“It is just surreal and we are all very sad.”
