Cork Councilor Lorna Bogue has resigned from the Green Party.

It is understood that he resigned last Thursday because of the Government’s handling of sealing the records of the Maternal and Child Home for 30 years.

The bill was strongly criticized by both survivor groups and opposition parties, and the Minister for Children, Roderic O’Gorman, a colleague from Ms. Bogue’s Green Party, received special criticism.

It is understood that the leader of the Green Party, Eamon Ryan, has not yet contacted Ms Bogue about her resignation.

“I am not waiting for you to contact me, but it is not professional conduct. I have given the party a lot of time. Any councilor should expect a phone call as a courtesy,” he told the Irish examiner.

Bogue said the Greens have yet to release the number of resignations from the party in recent days triggered by the fallout from the mother and baby home searches bill.

The outspoken councilor had previously been critical of the government program, as well as the Green Party’s handling of the Shannon LNG project.

Ms. Bogue has represented voters in the Cork City South East district since the local elections in May 2019.

Commenting, the party said: “The Green Party would like to thank Cllr Lorna Bogue for her tireless work with the Party over the past years.

“The Green Party was saddened to receive the resignation of Cllr Bogue and wishes him well with his work on climate and social justice at the local and national levels.”

In a statement on Twitter, the Cork Greens thanked Ms. Bogue for her commitment to the party.

The Cork Councilor and our colleague of six years, Lorna Bogue, have announced their resignation from the party.

“Thank you Lorna for your years of energy and commitment. We will continue to work together in Cork.”
