Frenchman Bernard Le Roux has been cleared to play in the Guinness Six Nations final against Ireland after a hearing on an act of foul play against Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones.
Second-row forward Le Roux was accused of hitting Jones with a forearm during France’s 38-21 friendly in Paris on Saturday.
Le Roux told an independent disciplinary committee Tuesday that he had contacted Jones, but denied that it was an act of foul play.
“The disciplinary committee, which included Charles Cuthbert (UAE), Leon Lloyd (England) and Frank Hadden (Scotland), considered all relevant material and heard evidence and presentations from Mr. Le Roux and his legal advisor, Louis Weston.” a declaration of the Six Nations is read.
“The disciplinary committee determined that Mr. Le Roux had committed an act of foul play (an infringement of Law 9.12) but had not justified a red card, and that, therefore, Mr. Le Roux is free to resume play immediately. “
One man who will miss the game in Paris is Freddy Thomas, with the winger sidelined with a hamstring problem.
France heads into the final weekend of the delayed Six Nations 2020 in third place, one point behind leaders Ireland, who know a bonus points victory in Paris on Saturday will give them the title.
England, who are in second place, along with France with 13 points, conclude their away campaign against Italy, the last classified in Rome.
