Derry City said Wednesday’s SSE Airtricity Premier Division game against Shamrock Rovers will not continue after a Candystripes player and a backroom team member tested positive for coronavirus.
However, the Irish Football Association says it is “waiting for more information” before officially postponing the match.
The Rovers were due to lift the Premier Division trophy at Tallaght Stadium on Wednesday after winning the title without kicking a ball over the weekend.
But their celebrations have been frozen after Derry came back with two positive tests.
“Derry City FC would like to advise that our scheduled match against Shamrock Rovers on Wednesday night will not take place,” a club statement read.
“This decision was made after a member of the squad and one of the backroom team tested positive for coronavirus in recent days.
“The club is currently working closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure the well-being of all players and staff.”
The FAI said it “has been informed by Derry City FC of a number of positive Covid-19 test results at the club” but is seeking further details.
“The FAI is now awaiting further information from the City of Derry and the Northern Ireland Public Health Agency as they review this situation.”
Last week, the governing body told clubs in the League of Ireland that no further matches would be postponed due to cases of coronavirus.
Wednesday’s game had been initially rescheduled as of October 16 after a positive case of Covid-19 was identified on the Shamrock Rovers team.
