One of the capital’s most notorious gangsters is due to appear in court tomorrow on firearms charges related to an attempted double murder in the Swords area on January 17.

We may also reveal that an out-of-control friend of the accused, Robert ‘Roo’ Redmond (32), is expected to be arrested in prison in connection with the same charges.

In January of this year, Redmond and his right-hand man were arrested before being released without charge for a double shooting in North Dublin that left one victim with catastrophic injuries.

The duo were arrested near a burning black Citroen C4 151 D reg car on Greenwood Avenue, Clonshaugh, about eight miles from the double shooting at St Margaret’s on the afternoon of January 17.

However, since then, Redmond has been extremely unlucky after being arrested as part of a major bullying investigation in Northern Ireland, as well as having to face the full force of the Office of Criminal Assets in High Court.

In August, in a Belfast court charged with making death threats after a family’s home was shot.

A court heard that firearm attacks were carried out on a Tyrone home linked to a € 250,000 drug debt owed to criminals in the capital.

Police said the house in Coalisland was attacked twice amid telephone warnings to “cause harm” to a family living there if the money is not paid.

The details emerged when Redmond, who is linked to gang disputes in Dublin, appeared in Belfast Magistrates Court charged with death threats on dates between February 1 and July 2, 2019.

Redmond, of Woodview Close in the Donaghmede area, was arrested at a hotel Tuesday after apparently traveling north for a night out.

A detective said the case is related to separate firearm attacks on the Coalisland property in March and July of last year.

In the first incident, several shots were fired through the windows of the house.

Police believe the attack was carried out because a family member living there was threatened by criminals in Dublin.

The alleged victim claims she had developed a friendship with Redmond after they met in Lanzarote, the court heard.

But according to the detective, their relationship deteriorated when Redmond held him responsible for a drug debt of 250,000 euros.

Death threats were allegedly made in WhatsApp messages, one of which told the man he had two weeks to pay and signed “tick, tock, tick, tock.”

Another message was claimed to warn: “I am going to cause harm to your family.”

After the house was shot a second time, the man reportedly received more telephone communications informing him that he would receive “five or six to the face.”

Defense attorney Hamill Clawson insisted that Redmond is only charged with death threats, which they deny.

“He was released unconditionally in connection with the alleged shooting that occurred a year ago at the complainant’s home,” the lawyer said.

When asked why his client was in the north this week, Clawson explained: “There is still a blockage in the south, he came to Belfast for a night out.”

Redmond was denied bail but has since been granted it, but after his arrest this weekend he faces pretrial detention in Dublin District Court on these separate charges.

The Herald previously revealed how ‘Roo’ is heavily involved in the deadly Coolock dispute when he lost € 136,000 in assets after a High Court ruling.

The convicted drug lord has survived a coup attempt and was also arrested twice for possession of firearms in connection with the dispute that has claimed five lives.

He was released without charge both times, but is believed to have come under increasing pressure in recent days because his 32-year-old right-hand man is now in custody on separate firearms charges. .

Redmond has been the focus of multiple investigations by specialized garda units, including the Bureau of Drugs and Organized Crime (DOCB).

He was also closely monitored by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB), who made two major seizures of him in August 2018 and January 2019.

Last July, in Superior Court, Judge Alex Owens gave the CAB permission to sell Redmond’s seized assets and deposit the proceeds in the state coffers.

Assets included a 151 Audi A6 car, high-end watches and bags, designer clothing and more than € 36,000 in cash. The total value of the assets is estimated at € 136,000.

Redmond was not present in court to hear that the state will seize the items, which include a diamond-encrusted Audemars Piguet watch worth more than € 22,000, a Rolex watch valued at more than € 16,000 and a Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch for woman valued at more than euros. 21,000.

Designer items worth € 10,000 were also seized.

Redmond, who has 77 criminal convictions, including four for drug possession, was incarcerated for five years in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in 2013 when he pleaded guilty to possession of drugs for sale or supply in Burnell Square, Northern Cross, Malahide Road, on September 29, 2010.
