Limerick progressed to the Munster Championship semifinal, where they will face Tipperary, after a 0-36 to 1-23 win over Clare.

The Treaty ran into Tony Kelly in his prime, as the 2013 Hurler led the charge for the Banner. The Ballyea man posted a personal score of 0-17, but it wasn’t enough as Brian Lohan’s charges faded in the second half.

The game began at a frantic pace as the teams exchanged points at Semple Stadium. Limerick established a three-point lead twice in the first half, but narrowed both times. Kelly’s precision helped Clare finish the half with three straight points to make it 0-15 each at the break.

Whatever John Kiely said at halftime, it certainly had the desired effect when the Treaty came out of the traps, scoring six unanswered points.

By the time Kelly reached Clare’s 16th spot in the 45th minute to stop the rot, there was a feeling that Limerick was slipping away.

Although the Banner made it a one-point game with a goal from Ryan Taylor, Limerick always seemed to have another team.
