EMMERDALE and Coronation Street actor Johnny Leeze has died at 78 after testing positive for coronavirus.
His daughter Holly broke the sad news that her father had died after a two-week illness.
Holly told The Daily Star: “He was my friend, he was a very strong man.
“He was a great guy, a really funny guy. He was really loved by everyone. Even his ex-wife, who is with me today, my mom.”
“I don’t know what else to say. I’m numb, I just can’t understand it right now.
“I want to say a lot more about him, but I don’t know what to say.”
Born John Glen, the York star made his television debut in 1982 on the comedy Open All Hours.
The soap opera star’s daughter shared that she had tested positive for Coronavirus the day before she died.
The actor was famous for his role as Ned Glover in Emmerdale from 1994 to 1999.
Before that, in 1985 he played Harry Clayton on Coronation Street for several months.
Since then, tributes have been poured for the beloved soap opera star on social media.
Johnny’s brother Philip said the late star “made thousands laugh” and that “we will all miss him very much.”
He wrote: “I am so sorry to inform you all that my brother John passed away this morning. Many of you will remember him as Ned Glover in Emmerdale, or as comedian Johnny Leeze, on the club scene.”
“He had Covid and underlying health problems. He made thousands laugh. We will all miss him very much.”
“Rest in peace, John. Your loving brother Phil, and your sisters, Pam and Sheila. I know you’ll have them all in stitches up there. Fly high on angel wings.”
