The bodies of a woman and a baby were found in separate locations near Lucan in Co Dublin on Thursday.
Gardaí is investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a woman’s body on the Lower Way in Strawberry Beds and the inexplicable death of a child in a house in Lucan.
“At this stage, the investigative Gardaí are treating these incidents as a family tragedy and are currently not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths,” the Garda said in a statement.
The statement read: “At approximately 3.45 am on October 22, 2020, following reports of a pedestrian seen acting suspiciously on the M50 bridge (toll plaza), Gardaí discovered the body of a woman on Lower Road, Strawberry Beds.
“After this incident, Gardaí went to a house in Lucan where they found a 7-month-old baby who was not responding. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly thereafter. “
The statement added that an incident room had been established at the Lucan Garda station and a technical examination of the scene had been conducted. The coroner and the state pathologist’s office have been notified.
The baby’s body has been taken to Crumlin Hospital and the woman’s body has been taken to the City Morgue where post-mortem examinations will be carried out.
