The Taoiseach has said that a border survey will not be on the government’s agenda for the next five years.

Micheál Martin spoke at an event at Dublin Castle to outline political priorities in the Government’s Shared Island initiative.

A unit has been created in the department of Taoiseach that will oversee € 500 million of investment in North-South infrastructure initiatives over the next five years.

Mr. Martin described this as “new money” that will be “capped.”

In his speech, the Taoiseach referred to the Government’s intention to redouble its efforts to build connections and trust between the traditions of the island of Ireland.

He referred to his respect for former SDLP leader Seamus Mallon and the principles outlined in his memoir ‘A Shared Home Place’.

The Taoiseach also said it expects the island’s 1.3 million citizens, born since the Good Friday Agreement, to actively participate in the dialogue the government seeks to foster.
