IT IS ONLY PAST midnight Thursday (or midnight Wednesday night, as the Taoiseach called it), which means Level 5 restrictions have just come into effect.
Level 5 restrictions will be in effect for six weeks, and a review will take place after four weeks. Everything is going well, the level 5 restrictions will be lifted on December 1, when we are likely to return to the level 3 restrictions.
For those who break the Covid-19 guidelines, by doing things like hosting a house party or crossing county lines for non-essential reasons, they run the risk of facing a fine.
These are the new Covid-19 rules for the next six weeks.
Social gatherings: You cannot receive visitors in your home, indoors or outdoors.
But, and many people may have missed this, as Taoiseach Micheál Martin did not mention it in his speech on Monday. power reunite with another household if you are away and not at home.
People living alone, lonely parents, and others at risk of isolation can develop “social bubbles,” meaning they can bond with a home and form a family unit. However, there cannot be more than one social bubble per household, and you cannot change which household you bubble with during the six weeks.
Nursing home visits and care are suspended except in critical and compassionate circumstances.
Job: People should work from home unless they are essential workers. Some increases have been made to the Pandemic Unemployment Pay and Employee Wage Subsidy Plan to assist employees whose workplace has been closed for six weeks.
Health care: Hospitals continue to operate as before at level 3 and ask people to keep their appointments for the next six weeks. GPs are also emphasizing that they are still attending appointments, as they were at Level 3, for non-Covid and Covid care.
Schools: Schools, nurseries, playgroups, and play areas will be allowed to remain open. Children can also form groups of 15 for non-contact outdoor training during Level 5.
Travel and transportation: People can travel within 5 km of their home to exercise, with a possible threat of fines if these rules are violated. You can only leave your 5 km perimeter if it is for essential reasons. These are:
- Travel to and from work, where work involves providing an essential service
- To attend medical appointments and pick up medicines and other health products.
- For vital family reasons, such as the provision of care to children, the elderly or vulnerable people, and in particular those who live alone, as part of an extended home but excluding social family visits.
- To attend a wedding or funeral
- For agricultural purposes, ie. food production and / or animal care
- To visit a grave
Public transport can only be used for essential reasons. Public transportation can operate with a capacity restricted to 25% with the goal of transporting essential workers to work (it was at 50% at Level 3).
Cocooning: People over the age of 70 and medically vulnerable people are advised to continue to exercise personal judgment, but are advised to stay home and limit participation to a very small network for short periods of time, while remaining physically distanced .
Restaurants, pubs and hotels: Take-out or food delivery services can only be available in cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs, including those in hotels.
Dublin’s wet pubs are closed.
Retailers: Only essential retail outlets will be allowed to remain open; If you want to see what that entails, here’s a complete piece. If you want a less comprehensive overview, these will be the essential retailers from first close (supermarkets, newsstands, pharmacies, and unlicensed) with a couple of additions like hardware stores, phone stores, bike repair shops, dentists and opticians.
Those that are not essential retailers / services include hairdressers and barbers, bookstores and clothing stores, garden centers and the fields.
Weddings and funerals: 25 people can attend weddings (this includes the bride, groom and celebrant) and 25 people can also attend funerals, although other restrictions apply. You can also travel between counties to attend a wedding.
Mass and other religious services will move online, but places of worship will remain open for people to pray.
Sport: Gyms and swimming pools will be closed, while professional and elite sports, such as the GAA championships, will be able to continue but without spectators. Individual training can also continue.
Horse and greyhound racing can continue behind closed doors.
