A freighter that lost power and came dangerously close to a rocky shoreline at Hook Head is now being towed back to Waterford Harbor.
The 4,000-ton vessel lost power and called for help yesterday.
The “Lily B” is now being towed by the tug “Tramontane” which is being assisted by the tug “Bargarth” and is due to return to the port of Waterford at Belview around 1pm.
The ship will be inspected by staff from the Department of Transportation’s Office of Marine Inspection when it has returned to port.
The ship’s crew is understood to have raised the alarm around 3 p.m. after it lost power about two nautical miles from Hook Head, Co Wexford.

RNLI images show a cargo ship drifting off Wexford
The RNLI ships from Dunmore East, Kilmore Quay and Rosslare were launched, as well as the R117 helicopter based at Waterford Airport.
Lifeboat crews had to deal with force-eight winds and twenty-foot-high waves, the RNLI said.
There were no reports of injuries to any of the nine crew members aboard the ship.
The ship was towed to calmer waters off Dunmore East and is expected to resume the final leg of the tow to Waterford Harbor today.
