Exact location of 1,269 coronavirus cases as large increase from 221 in Meath

The National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) has confirmed in Ireland another 13 deaths and 1,269 cases due to Covid-19.

Of the new cases, 221 were in Meath, 203 in Dublin, 116 in Cork, 80 in Cavan, and the remaining 649 cases were spread across all remaining counties.

As of 2 p.m. today, 312 Covid-19 patients are in hospitals across the country, including 34 people who are in intensive care units.

The R number is believed to be around 1.4 right now.

There are currently a total of 52,256 * confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.

Of the cases reported today;

  • 657 are men / 609 are women
  • 63% are under 45
  • The average age is 34 years.

Dr. Tony Holohan says that there have been a significant number of deaths today, all of which occurred in the past few days.

The burden of the virus and the impact it is having is growing, the medical director added.

He said they can see substantial changes in the rate of hospitalization.

Holohan said self-isolation is a very specific thing and the people you live with will be close contacts and all of them must restrict their movements.

He added that they have seen many reports that people go to work with symptoms and sometimes that is work in the health or education services sector.

HSE Integrated Care Leader and Consultant Psychiatrist Dr. Siobhán Ni Bhriain urged people to come forward for testing on the 7th at tonight’s briefing.

Medical Director Dr. Tony Holohan said: “If you have symptoms of Covid-19, if you are waiting for a test result, or if it is a confirmed case, you must isolate yourself for 10 days from the first appearance. Symptoms -isolation means staying in your room, away from other members of your household.

“If you live in a house with a confirmed case, do not go to work or school. You must stay home and restrict your movements for 14 days.”

Holohan added that it currently takes two days for someone to say that they have symptoms and that they need a test and that it needs to be shortened.
