A MAN in his 70s miraculously avoided serious injury after falling into the sea from a Cork cliff, prompting a major air and sea rescue.

The air and sea rescue operation began after the 77-year-old lost his balance and fell into the sea from a cliff on the outskirts of Garretstown.

The rescue involved the RNLI Courtmacsherry lifeboat and the Coast Guard Rescue 115 Sikorsky helicopter.
