In addition to joking about not being able to spell the word “inscription”, Gardai ended his appeal by writing: “If you are the owner and your partner sees this before you have told them, excuse me.”

Gardai said the owner, or anyone who knows the owner, can contact the Fermoy Garda station by calling 025 82100.

The full appeal reads: “This wedding ring was delivered to Fermoy during the last days.

“There is an inc … insrc … insr … the initials ‘RB’ are engraved on it.

“There is also other information there, which the owner will be able to identify.

“If you know the owner, call us on 025 82100.

“If you are the owner and your partner sees this before I tell you, excuse me.”
