Five deaths and 1,012 new confirmed Covid-19 cases in Northern Ireland

1,012 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Northern Ireland this afternoon, bringing the total number of positive cases in the north since the virus outbreak to 27,220.

The Northern Ireland Department of Health has confirmed another five deaths in the last 24 hours in its latest update.

There are currently 30 people in Northern Ireland with Covid-19 in the ICU and 228 patients in the hospital.

Of the cases confirmed today, the largest increase was in Belfast, where 285 new cases have been recorded.

Northern Ireland has reported daily case numbers in excess of 1,000 at various times this week.

Yesterday, there were 1,031 new Covid-19 cases and two confirmed deaths in Northern Ireland.

On Friday it posted a daily record with 1,299 confirmed cases, surpassing Wednesday’s previous high of 1,217.

Starting tomorrow, schools in Northern Ireland will close for two weeks until November 2 as part of a series of measures aimed at curbing the rise in numbers.

Pubs and restaurants have been closed for four weeks with the exception of take-out and delivery services.
