The country has seen another spike in coronavirus cases after 1,000 new infections were reported tonight.
Meanwhile, 3 other people have sadly died due to Covid-19.
The latest figures come after it was revealed that NPHET issued a recommendation to the government today on Level 5 lockdown restrictions.
Speaking today Taoiseach Micheal Martin, said that level five would have “enormous economic consequences” for the country.
Mr. Martin told reporters: “Obviously, this is very serious advice. You have to consider it properly and you have to give people clarity about it. “
Tanaiste Leo Varadkar said that a second block would be more difficult than the first, adding that people “would want to know what the exit strategy was.”
“A second lockdown will be difficult for people and some companies may not survive,” he said.
“Many people who felt that social isolation in spring was difficult might have a harder time with the darker days and the weather.”
Meanwhile, health experts continue to express concern about the continued increase in Covid cases across the country.
Speaking about today’s cases, Dr. Tony Holohan, Medical Director, said: “The number of cases continues to increase.
“Right now, we need everyone to keep their social contacts to an absolute minimum. Every time you physically interact with another person, you are providing an opportunity for the virus to spread.”
