The appeals process for the Leaving Certificate calculated grade system has been completed and the results have been made available to students.
A total of 18 improved grades have been awarded to 18 students.
The review office examined 33,301 individual subject records for 12,216 students.
This number does not include students who withdrew applications.
Eleven of the 18 upgraded grades came after a student appeal, while the remaining seven were the result of quality assurance checks related to documentation submitted by schools and transmitted through the various IT systems used in the school. calculation procedure.
The Department of Education and Skills said that this appeals process focused on errors related to errors in data processing and transmission, for example, if an error was entered in a student’s information in the system.
The process did not allow students to appeal the estimated percentages or ranges provided by the school, or the application of national standardization.
This appeal process is unrelated to the earlier discovery of errors in the computed grade system in which revised grades were issued to 6,100 students and four LCA students.
The Department said this error did not affect the appeals process.
Students whose grades have been improved as a result of an appeal will be contacted directly by the Calculated Grades office this afternoon.
The CAO will process the new information and inform higher education institutions of possible offers.
Students who are unhappy with the outcome of their appeal can have independent appeal reviewers review it.
The department said the low number of improved scores from appeals shows the professionalism with which schools are approaching calculated scores.
