A big change is on the way next week as unusual “cyclonic” conditions are forecast to hit Ireland.
Today it will be mostly dry with sunny spells, with occasional rains creeping in.
And as we begin the weekend more mixed conditions are expected on Saturday, before the rain becomes “persistent” on Sunday.
A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “Today will be mostly dry with sunny periods and only isolated rains during the day. Higher temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees with mild to moderate easterly winds, turning from moderate to cool in the southeast in the southwest later.
“Tomorrow, Saturday, it will be mostly dry with the best sunlight in the southwest in the morning. Clouds will gather in the east and north with isolated showers during the afternoon. Outbreaks of rain will develop later on the southwest coast. Higher temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees with moderate winds from the east, sometimes cool in the west.
“On Saturday night, outbreaks of rain in the southwest will spread inland and north to west Munster, most of the rest of the country will be dry with scattered rains. Fog and mist will thicken in the center and north Lowest temperatures of 3 to 5 degrees in the north and 8 to 10 degrees in the south, and light to moderate easterly winds will sometimes be cool.
“Sunday will be quite cloudy with rain or showers at times. The rain will become persistent later on Sunday, particularly in the southern coastal counties. Temperatures will range between 11 and 13 degrees during the afternoon and drop between 8 and 11 degrees during the night. Winds will be variable in the direction of light on Sunday, turning cool to the south on the eastern shores. “
And it looks like the miserable conditions will continue into next week, with some heavy bouts of rain and even possible flooding.
While some “cyclonic” winds are also expected to hit towards the middle of the week as a low pressure front approaches.
One forecaster added: “There will be outbreaks of rain Monday, sometimes intense and widespread across the country. Temperatures will be 12-14 degrees and winds will be moderate from the south, cool off the coasts. There will be more outbreaks of rain during the night with the risk of flooding.
“The weather remains unstable on Tuesday and throughout the midweek period. Tuesday’s winds are expected to be cool from the south, turning variable cyclonic as the week progresses and low pressure moves over or very close to Ireland. Temperatures they remain generally unchanged until the middle of the week. “
