The Gaelic Players Association (GPA) has asked its members if they want the Allianz Leagues and Championship to continue.

As the Allianz Leagues resumed on Saturday and the senior championships seven days later, in a poll issued to players among counties on Tuesday, the GPA executive asked the following questions:

“In your opinion, is your county board effectively implementing the ‘Covid 19 Inter County back-to-play protocols’ to ensure a safe training / play environment for you?

If not, please indicate what specific changes are required for your training / gaming environment to comply with Covid protocols;

“Which of the following options reflects your opinion for the upcoming 2020 season?

one) I want the season to continue.

two) I want to play only if the implementation of the Covid-19 protocols is improved.

3) I don’t want the season to continue.

“If the Covid-19 situation continues to deteriorate, do you support the NEC (GPA National Executive Committee) to make a decision on behalf of the players about the continuation of the season?”

The survey was issued on the basis that several players contacted the GPA about the increase in Covid-19 cases across the island.

The GPA has previously checked the consensus of the players, but the situation is tougher now as 10 Fermanagh footballers have contracted the virus and there have been other cases of coronavirus in the Armagh and Donegal footballers’ camps as well as the pitchers from Kerry and Wexford. .

There has not yet been a case directly related to the practice of Gaelic games, but the gatherings in and around the squads have left some players in awe. Today, the Irish Examiner reports that Kerry’s footballers will travel in their own cars to face Monaghan in their Division 1 clash at Inniskeen on Saturday.

The results of the survey should be known tomorrow.
