LIVE Ireland coronavirus Level 4 is updated as fears of new Dublin lockdown restrictions grow with NPHET ready to comply

Welcome to Dublin Live’s Covid-19 live blog as fears mount of new lockdown restrictions being announced in the capital and across the country with NPHET scheduled for tonight.

This comes after three counties were locked into the fourth level of restrictions in the country last night.

And for the rest of Ireland, home and garden visits are banned for four weeks, as Leo Varadkar warned that other counties face the move to Level Four.

What we know so far:

Home visits have been banned across the country as of Thursday night as the government tries to stop the “extremely worrying” spread of COVID-19.

And three border counties – Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan have entered a Level Four lockdown as infections surge in Northern Ireland.

The new rules will remain in effect until Tuesday, November 10.

This means thousands of people will be laid off in those three counties, as all non-essential retail services must shut down and everyone except front-line personnel must work from home.

But the schools will remain open and there will only be one week for the mid-term break.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin said that “the number of infections is too high” and that “immediate attention” is needed and there are “great concerns about the national situation as well.”

While Tanáiste Leo Varadkar warned that other counties face the passage to Level Four.

Varadkar said: “More counties are likely to move to Level Four.”

He said there was “no reason to relax” and that the coronavirus was “underway.”

Mr. Varadkar added that community transmission was now “widespread” in all counties.

Under Level Four restrictions, indoor social gatherings will not be allowed and home visits will not be allowed.

Meetings of up to 15 people will be allowed outdoors.

Pubs, restaurants and cafes will be forced to close their doors and will only be allowed to offer takeout service.
