Dr Tony Holohan has given another warning to the Irish public to address the “whole population problem” of the coronavirus.
The main doctor spoke when another 811 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in Ireland, and three other people sadly died from the disease.
He warned of “widespread community transmission” and called on everyone to “act on public health councils.”
Dr Holohan further described the Irish people as the “front line defense” against the coronavirus in tonight’s message.
The Medical Director of the Department of Health said: “We have widespread community transmission in the country.
“The spread of COVID-19 is a problem for the entire population, which is why we call on every individual, every family, home, organization, workplace, to act according to public health councils.
“You are the front line defense against this disease.”
His deputy, Dr. Ronan Glynn, added: “If we see that transmission patterns in the community continue to grow, we will see more vulnerable groups infected and the result of that, unfortunately, will be more hospitalizations and deaths.
“Limiting your contacts, avoiding crowds and following basic public health measures will ultimately save lives.”
At 2:00 p.m. today, 234 Covid-19 patients are in hospitals, of which 32 are in the ICU.
