Dr. Tony Holohan has said that “we cannot have a normal Halloween” as Covid-19 cases continue to spiral.

The medical director spoke at a news conference at the Health Department on Monday night, where a staggering 825 new cases were reported, along with one more death.

And as the national incidence rate continues to spiral, now at 167.8 per 100,000 population, Halloween is an event that will not unfold normally.

Dr. Holohan said, “As the year goes on, different social events, sporting events or whatever, they become prominent in our consideration and we have to give them specific consideration and that’s one of the things that we will be looking at in a a little closer.

“Our general advice, and you can absolutely anticipate it, will be based on the fact that we are trying to keep people away.

“So it’s not going to be a normal Halloween. It can’t be. We can’t allow children and families to move from house to house in the way that normally happens on Halloween.”

The total number of Covid-19 cases in Ireland since the start of the pandemic is now 43,531. Today two cases have been reported and that figure is correct as of the date of publication.
