GARDAÍ IN Midlands has seized what is described as “substantial amounts of alcohol” during searches of various suspected shebeens in the Midlands.
The seizures were made at three locations in Laois, Meath and Westmeath by Gardaí last Friday, when alleged violations of liquor licensing laws were investigated in support of Covid-19 public health measures.
During the searches, alcohol, beer taps, coolers, kegs, liquor dispensers and other bar items were seized.
No arrests were made, but all those present at the three premises were identified by Gardaí.
The investigations were carried out following a series of reports from members of the public.
Deputy Police and Security Commissioner John Twomey said operating unlicensed facilities puts both individuals and communities at risk.
“This is not acceptable and under Operation Navigation, An Garda Síochána will continue to take appropriate action,” he said.

A garda spokesperson said investigations are ongoing and files are ready to be prepared for the Director of the Public Ministry.
