Nigel Owens has revealed how he accidentally ended up taking a scenic route home on Saturday night after the Munster and Edinburgh Guinness Pro14 meeting. Owens was on the whistle at Thomond Park when Munster edged Edinburgh by two points thanks to a late try by CJ Stander.
But the Welsh referee took to Twitter on Sunday to reveal that when he was traveling to Cork after the game, he missed his turn and ended up near the popular resort town of Tralee in neighboring County Kerry.
The missed turn added more than an hour to Owens’ trip, an unfortunate mistake after taking over the late start of 7.35pm.
“I should have (taken) geography in school. He must have missed the Cork twist on the way back from the game in Limerick, ”said Owens. tweeted.
“I wasn’t far from Tralee when I realized it. Nightmare and overtime, plus driving back then. “

Perhaps the only source of comfort was that Twitter provided a lot of understanding, with Owens far from being the first person to end up driving the wrong way late at night in southern Ireland.
Hopefully, Nigel was able to at least get some rest on Sunday morning.
