MORE 814 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Ireland, the Department of Health said tonight.
In a statement, he said that two other people who were confirmed to have Covid-19 had died.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Ireland is 1,826, and the total number of cases is now 42,528.
Yesterday, more than 1,000 new cases of Covid-19 were reported amid a worsening situation with the virus across the country.
Of the current cases, 432 are men and 381 women. The data shows that 70% of the cases are under 45 years of age, while the median age is 32.
At present, 226 cases have been recorded in Dublin, 77 in Cork and 64 in Galway. There were 56 in Donegal, 48 in Meath and the remaining 343 cases spread across the rest of the counties.
There are currently 204 patients with Covid-19 in the hospital, of which 30 are in the ICU. There have been 16 more people hospitalized in the last 24 hours.
“It is vital that the entire population consistently implement public health advice in their daily life; keep your social contacts to a minimum and maintain physical distance when you need to be away from home, ”said Dr. Tony Holohan, Medical Director.
In TwitterHealth Minister Stephen Donnelly said that while the numbers are “disappointing,” people should not lose hope.
“They still don’t reflect the impact of changes in our behavior since the whole country went to Level 3. The latest figures suggest that transmission is slowing down in Dublin. This is encouraging, ”Donnelly said.

Earlier today, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar suggested that a “short and hard blockade might be necessary in the near future to hit the virus on the head again.” This follows the government choosing not to accept NPHET’s recommendation to move to Level 5 a week ago.
However, Taoiseach Micheál Martin this afternoon seemed to question such an idea.
Previously, 1,066 new cases of the virus were confirmed in Northern Ireland.
