201 people are being treated in Irish hospitals for Covid-19 this morning, 30 of whom are in intensive care units.
This is the highest number of people receiving treatment in hospitals since May.
201 are receiving treatment now after 18 new admissions in the last 24 hours.
Yesterday, the HPSC reported another 1,012 confirmed cases of the virus. The 24-day incidence rate has increased by 39% in the last seven days, and the positivity rate has more than doubled in less than two weeks.
The surge in hospital admissions comes as HSE chief Paul Reid tweeted that Ireland needs to “be real.”
This morning, Mr. Reid wrote that we must all play our part to protect the hospital staff and their patients.

“The increase in hospital cases leads to more people in the ICU and canceling the heart, cancer and other care. Let’s change this quickly by doing the right thing today,” he said.
Infectious disease specialist Professor Sam McConkey says the government’s current strategy is not enough.
“No amount of test and trace and Level 3 restrictions will solve this problem in Ireland in the short, medium or long term.”
“The decision of the Government, if some counties go up to level 4, all counties go up or some counties go up to level 5, is a decision of the national leaders.”
“My opinion is that we have to make one of those options right now.”
