There have been three new deaths related to Covid-19 and more than 1,000 new confirmed cases of the virus, according to the latest figures.
he Health Protection Surveillance Center has learned of 1,012 new confirmed cases of Covid-19.
As of 2:00 p.m. today, 199 Covid-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 31 are in the ICU.
Medical Director Dr. Tony Holohan said that all new cases were reported over a 24-hour period until midnight Friday.
It is the highest number of cases in a 24-hour period since the height of the pandemic. On April 15, 1,068 cases were reported.
Dr. Holohan said the number of cases is increasing across the country in all age categories.
“All the important indicators of the disease are deteriorating. For example, there has been a steady increase in test positivity over the past week. The positivity rate of the test as of midnight on Friday, October 9, was 6.2 percent, which has more than doubled in less than fifteen days.
“The number of cases is increasing in all age groups and across the country.
“The 14-day incidence rate has increased from 108 per 100,000 last Sunday to 150 per 100,000 today, which represents an increase of 39%.”

Deputy Medical Director Ronan Glynn said the situation in hospitals means people must limit their contacts to prevent the virus from spreading.
“In the last 24 hours, there have been 35 new admissions of laboratory-confirmed cases to the hospital and 4 new admissions to the ICU. Now there are 199 people in the hospital and 31 in the ICU. Every age group, location and household must act now, limit their contacts, and stop the disease in its tracks. ”
Figures show that Dublin is the worst hit with 241 cases, followed by Cork with 112. Cavan has 80 new cases. Meath accounts for 72 of the cases and Galway 66. A further 441 cases are shared among the remaining counties of the Republic.
It means that there have been a total of 1,824 Covid-19-related deaths and almost 42,000 cases since March.
Today’s number of cases represents a significant increase compared to the figures confirmed earlier this week, which were already increasing. On average, there were just over 500 confirmed cases each day in the week leading up to today.
The average age of all new cases is 30 years.
