Temperatures will plummet to freezing in just a few days as Met Eireann forecasts a more wintry sensation in Ireland.
It is almost time to take out the wool hat and the fire started with several very cold nights next week.
Weather bosses predict that conditions will be unusually cold for this time of year, although there won’t be too much rain.
A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “Mixed weather for the rest of the week, but overall a fair amount of dry weather, with below normal rainfall in most parts. Temperatures around normal or a little under”.
Tuesday and Wednesday nights seem to be the coldest days with temperatures as low as 0 ° C at night.
The forecaster added: “Mostly dry, with sunny spells on Tuesday, but some scattered showers likely along the north and east coasts. Highs 11-14 degrees, with mostly moderate breezes from north to northeast.”
“Cold and mostly dry on Tuesday night, with lows of 1 to 5 degrees, with risk of grass frost, especially in the western half of the country.
“Dry in most areas on Wednesday, with sunny periods, but some scattered showers may occur along eastern shores. Max. 12-15 degrees, mostly with light north breezes or variable breezes. Dry overnight, but cold, with lows of 0 to 4 degrees. Patches of fog and mist will develop as the winds decrease. “
Weekend
In the more immediate future, Saturday and Sunday are likely to be mixed days with dry conditions in the morning and rain in the evening.
A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “Today will be a bright day, with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. Most of the showers will be in Ulster, Connacht and West Munster at first, but will spread further.
“Higher temperatures of 12 to 14 or 15 degrees, in mostly moderate northwest winds, cool to strong for a time on exposed coasts.
“Sunday will be a dry day in most areas, with sunny spells in the morning and any fog or patches of fog clearing.
“However, clouds will gradually increase from the Atlantic and erratic rains and drizzles will develop at dusk on the west and southwest coasts. Maximum temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees, with light or variable breezes from the west, which will then increase moderately to the south on the Atlantic coasts “.
