Trump refuses to virtually hold the next presidential debate

The second US presidential debate on Oct. 15 will be virtual, the Committee on Presidential Debate said, with President Donald Trump and his Democratic challenger Joe Biden participating in the town hall-style event from remote locations.

The audience, which typically asks candidates questions in the city’s gathering format, and moderator Steve Scully will meet at a location in Florida, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami, the commission said in a statement.

However, Trump, speaking in a telephone interview with Fox Business, said it is not acceptable to do the next debate virtually.

“I’m not going to do a virtual debate,” he said.

The commission said the decision was made “to protect the health and safety of all those involved.”

Last Thursday, Trump tested positive for Covid-19, raising concerns that during the first debate the previous Tuesday he had infected Biden and moderator Chris Wallace.

Mr. Biden tested negative.
