The leaders of the coalition party concluded their meeting with the medical director, Dr. Tony Holohan, on Monday afternoon and it is understood that the cabinet is not going to decide to move the entire country to level 5, but to level 3.
Dublin and Donegal have been living under Level 3 of the government’s Living with Covid strategy in recent weeks. This is what the restrictions would imply for the entire country:
Can I travel outside of my county?
You are encouraged to stay within your county unless you have to travel for work, educational, or other essential purposes.
Can I have visitors to my home?
You can have a maximum of six visitors from one other household only. Social or family gatherings should not take place in other settings.
Are meetings organized indoors or outdoors, such as conferences, theater events, or other arts events allowed?
Organized meetings should not take place indoors. Outdoor meetings of up to 15 people can be held.
Museums, galleries and other cultural attractions close on level 3, while libraries will be available for electronic services and for calls and charges.
Outdoor playgrounds, play areas, and parks will remain open.
What about weddings?
Up to 25 people can attend a wedding ceremony and reception.
What about mass and funerals?
Religious services will be held online. Places of worship remain open for private prayer. As for funerals, up to 25 mourners can attend.
Can you still play sports?
Non-contact outdoor training only in groups of up to 15 can take place with an exemption for professional / elite / inter-county sports / senior club championships.
In terms of interior, only individual training is allowed without exercise or dance classes taking place.
There will be no games or sporting events. Again, there is an exemption for professional / elite / inter-county / club / horse racing championships that can take place behind closed doors.
But hasn’t the GAA suspended all club games?
Have. The association’s steering committee made the decision on Monday to suspend all club matches until further notice.
He said the decision was made “in the interest of public safety after a series of incidents that have come to our attention in recent days. In particular, post-match celebrations and lack of social distancing at certain events have been disappointing and troublesome. “
Can gyms stay open?
Gyms, leisure centers and swimming pools can remain open as long as they have the necessary protection measures and only for individual training.
What about pubs and restaurants?
Generally, under Level 3 measures, wet pubs can remain open with additional restrictions. Bars, cafes and restaurants may also remain open with “additional restrictions on eating inside.”
However, since Dublin dropped below level 3 last month, wet pubs have remained closed, while restaurants and cafes can only stay open for take-out and alfresco dining for up to 15 people.
In Donegal, pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants can stay open only for take out, delivery and alfresco dining for up to 15 people.
Nightclubs, discos and casinos remain closed on Level 3.
What about hotels and similar accommodations?
They may remain open, but services will be limited to residents.
Are the points of sale and hairdressers / barbers open?
Face shields should continue to be worn when entering points of sale, shopping centers, etc. They, along with hairdressers, barbers and estheticians can remain open as long as the necessary protective measures are taken.
Is the advice to keep working from home?
Yes, at Level 3 the advice is “work from home unless you absolutely must attend in person.”
Will schools and daycare centers stay open?
Schools and nurseries remain open with protective measures in place. In addition, adult and higher education should “intensify all appropriate protective measures and limit the congregation as much as possible.”
Do those over 70 or medically vulnerable people have to take shelter?
People aged 70 and over and medically vulnerable people are advised to “exercise their judgment” regarding the extent to which they interact with others and in activities outside the home.
Can I visit a family member in a nursing home?
Visits to long-term residential care facilities are suspended at Level 3, in addition to “critical and compassionate circumstances”.
What about public transport?
Face shields must continue to be worn on public transportation. People are advised to walk or bike whenever possible. Public transportation capacity will be limited to 50 percent.
