Four employees at a hotel in Kilkenny tested positive for Covid-19, prompting the facility to close.

The Newpark Hotel in Kilkenny will be closed until Friday as management confirmed that affected members are now isolating themselves after warning management that they were unwell.

A statement from the four-star hotel wished its “valued staff a full and speedy recovery,” adding that “they are actively supporting them at this time.”

“The Newpark Hotel is following all appropriate best practice protocols and has been in contact with the HSE at all times,” they said.

“The Flynn Hotel Collection and Newpark Hotel management have independently made, and purely as a precautionary measure, the decision in the interest of our staff and guests to close the hotel for several days to readjust the staff roster before the reopening.

“That decision and the closing process began this morning and the Hotel Newpark will now be closed from Monday, October 5 to Friday, October 9.”

This decision by the Flynn Hotel Collection to temporarily close the Newpark Hotel, although not taken lightly, is in line with our Because We Care (BWC) program.

The statement added: “From the start of the Covid 19 outbreak, the bottom line of that program is, where possible, to go beyond HSE or industry guidelines and always put the well-being of our staff and guests first.

“This remains a top priority during these difficult times. The Newpark Hotel management and team look forward to welcoming the public on Friday, October 9. “
