A French couple, who have lived in Ireland for 18 months, got married on Sunday in an unconventional location: Dublin airport.

ico Buhler and Justine Heintzelman were married in the lobby of the original Aer Lingus terminal after having to cancel their wedding three times due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The newlyweds wanted to get married now as their paperwork was going to be out of date. On Monday, they still had no place, so Nico took a risk and called Dublin airport.

“On Monday we did not have a wedding planned due to the coronavirus, so we did not know where to go,” he said.

“I woke up Tuesday morning and thought, we’ve been traveling a lot, airports are always open, so I plucked up my courage and called [Dublin Airport]. And look where we are now! It’s crazy, ”she told RTE News.

Only three witnesses attended the unconventional wedding, and Justine said that most of her friends did not know about her big day, but that they “will learn [the news] somehow”.

The couple emphasized that they would have loved their family there, but “we can’t put them at risk, so it’s a difficult step to take, but we have to.”

Nico and Justine were originally getting married at the end of April. The couple were eager to get married soon, as their paperwork was due to be out of date by the end of October.

“And then we had until the end of October to do it legally before losing the paperwork and having to do it all over again,” Justine said.

“And we were hoping we could do it today, because today is our fifth anniversary, so it’s even better to be able to do it like this. What a crazy day! “

Due to the weather, the couple married indoors rather than the planned location of the airport grounds.

Dublin Airport shared the exciting news on Twitter: “We don’t normally do weddings. But the French couple Nico and Justine, who have lived here for 18 months, canceled their wedding 3 times. Their paperwork was almost out of date, so they asked if we could help. The rain forced them out of the gardens outside the old terminal. “

The newlyweds didn’t get on a plane afterwards for a honeymoon, instead they went home, but their next adventure is on the way as they must welcome a baby in the coming months.
