John Gosden said a decision on Enable’s future would not be made for at least a week after he was denied an unprecedented third Arc.
The six-year-old was only able to achieve sixth place in testing conditions at Longchamp, and the coach attributed her performance to not handling the ground and a lack of pace in the race.
“She looked great afterward,” Gosden said. “It was fun for Khalid Abdullah to let him go back and try again this year, and if he hadn’t, he wouldn’t have won another King George.
“We’ll see what the plan is with her and if she retires immediately. As always, Prince Khalid will want a report on her a week after the race and we’ll see what happens from there.
“She didn’t have a demanding race because they didn’t gallop like they do in England and Ireland, but that’s a horse race. If you can’t take the hits in this game, you shouldn’t be in it.”

“title =” Enable and Stradivarius (6) could only finish 6th and 7th in Sunday’s Arc with the fault “class =” js-imageLoader “data-at-xn =” https: //www.rp-assets “. com / images / news / 2020/10/04/83226-medium.jpeg “data-br-n =” https://www.rp-assets.com/images/news/2020/10/04/83226-medium. jpeg “data-br-m =” https://www.rp-assets.com/images/news/2020/10/04/83226-large.jpeg “data-br-w =” https: // www. rp-assets.com / images / news / 2020/10/04/83226-large.jpeg “data-br-xw =” https://www.rp-assets.com/images/news/2020/10/ 04 /83226-large.jpeg “onclick =” return false; “>
Gosden said the late retirement of runners coached by Aidan O’Brien on Saturday night, including favorites Serpentine and Sovereign, had a notable impact on race tactics.
“We knew that the Serpentine and Sovereign were key to the development of the race,” said Gosden. “They would have put on a uniform gallop and once they were removed the whole complexion changed.
“There was concern that there would be no pace and Pierre-Charles Boudot set a modest at Persian King. Enable is a one-and-a-half mile filly who would have appreciated more speed to aim.
“Frankie [Dettori] He felt that he was not happy with the deep dry ground and that his action was not suitable for him. That’s the first time she’s finished in the top three in her life. It was the pace and the terrain, it’s that simple. It is not very complicated.
“That’s life and the maximum score for the winner and the first three. I would love to have seen the good or soft ground. They are key factors. Sometimes they work in your favor, sometimes not.”

Teddy Grimthorpe, owner Khalid Abdullah’s racing manager, said there are no regrets for keeping Enable training this year and spoke enthusiastically about his remarkable contribution to the sport.
“Enable has given us so much, not just Juddmonte and Prince Khalid, but the whole sport. She has been a very important part of our lives and we have no complaints or excuses,” Grimthorpe said.
“We are the ones who are trying to pressure her to do things. She is happy and has kept her enthusiasm. She loves racing, her routine, her life and Frankie too, just like he loves her. They have a wonderful relationship.
“The expectations surrounding her have been quite huge, but it has been a great joy. For her, winning a third King George this year was exceptional. She has a truly extraordinary resume.”
‘It’s difficult to get here, much less win it’
A decision on the future of Stradivarius will also be made in the coming days after the prolific player finished seventh at the Arc.
The six-year-old was trying to emulate the likes of Ardross and Westerner, both of whom dropped notably on the career journey. He was a second overall favorite in preparation behind Enable.
“It looked like it had a good shot when turning, but it just wasn’t as fast as we thought it would, maybe on the ground,” said owner Bjorn Nielsen.
“We thought he would run a really great race and he did well enough. He wasn’t blowing long afterwards, that’s the way it is.
“It was still a privilege to have a horse in the race. It is difficult to get here much less win. He is a great horse and has won many important races. He really owes us nothing and seems to be very popular.”
