The government’s plan on international travel will be published on October 13, says the transport minister

THE GOVERNMENT will have an international travel plan ready by October 13, Green Party leader Eamon Ryan said.

Speaking on RTÉ One’s The Week in Politics program, the Transport Minister confirmed that the plan will be published in the coming weeks.

International travel has been a difficult topic for the government, which has faced questions about the status of the Green List and whether it would align with the approach taken by the EU.

Last month, the EU announced a plan that would introduce a traffic light system that would create common criteria and thresholds for EU member states to decide when travel restrictions should be introduced.

The plan will go into effect this month.

Ryan confirmed today that the Irish government’s plan, which will align with the EU’s, should be finalized on October 13.

“We have to do it in that time frame,” Ryan said.

He also said that he would meet with health and transportation officials tomorrow to discuss the Covid-19 testing system at airports.

“We have to be careful not to take the testing capacity out of the health system, but we still have, like Germany, the ability to include testing as part of our way of monitoring aviation,” Ryan said.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly previously confirmed that the random tests will be implemented as part of a set of measures at airports.

“It is not our goal to test 30%, 40% or 50%. It is not a massive test measure. It is part of one of the measures we are introducing, ”he said.
