Met Éireann has issued Status Yellow warnings for wind and rain that will affect much of the country this weekend.

A state yellow wind warning is in place for Donegal, Mayo and Sligo from 6 am to 9 pm tomorrow.

“The northwest winds will strengthen on Sunday with average wind speeds of 50 to 65 km / h and gusts of 90 to 100 km / h,” according to Met Éireann.

A separate wind advisory was issued for Galway, Clare, and Kerry from 12 noon to 10 p.m. tomorrow.

Additionally, Met Éireann issued a yellow status rain warning for Kildare, Laois, Longford, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo. It is valid from 7 am to 11 pm tomorrow.

“Intense and persistent rains totaling 25mm to 40mm … higher totals are expected in mountainous areas. This may result in flooding of some rivers as well as surface flooding.”

Met Éireann also warned of gale force winds at times tonight in Irish coastal waters from Bloody Foreland to Howth Head, Carnsore Point and the Irish Sea.
