Heavy rains are expected to hit Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo this weekend.

Met Eireann warned of “heavy and sometimes intense” rains amounting to 25-40mm as Storm Alex approaches.

Gavin Gallagher of Met Eireann warned: “Storm Alex is part of a colder fall of air pushing north-west Europe over the next few days, with much of the associated rainfall over the Pyrenees and the Alps falling as snow. .
“Ireland will also feel the effects of Storm Alex with a wider area of low pressure associated with this weather event which will likely bring heavy rains across the country on Saturday and early Sunday with the possibility of flooding.
“The north winds will also strengthen over Ireland on Saturday night and Sunday.”

A band of showers in the southwest will spread to the northeast on Monday with maximum temperatures of 12 ° C to 15 ° C.
