Armagh GAA officials have made the decision to suspend all club activities with immediate effect and until further notice.
The news came after a statement from the Armagh GAA Management Committee meeting earlier tonight.
A record number of positive Covid-19 cases were reported in the north today and Armagh bosses have moved quickly to cease activities. Armagh GAA Chairman Michael Savage said it was not an easy decision.
“Following an update today on the significant increase in cases across the North combined with several of our clubs adversely affected,” he said.
“This decision has not been made lightly, but we believe it is the right and responsible decision to protect our members and our communities.
“We will review this situation in consultation with the Ulster GAA in the coming days and urge all members to continue to follow the public health advice,” he said.
Earlier today, Armagh’s senior soccer team suspended training after confirmation that several of its players tested positive for Covid-19.
There has been a large increase in the number of confirmed cases of the virus across the North over the past week.
The NI executive yesterday announced new blocking measures.
An earlier statement from Armagh GAA read: “After a recent outbreak at a local club, Armagh’s senior soccer team has several confirmed positive results for Covid-19. We are strictly following GAA and public health advice and as precautionary measure, they have postponed collective training.
“These are difficult times for our communities and Armagh GAA urges all members to follow public health guidelines.”
Armagh will face Roscommon in a crucial Allianz League Division 2 clash on Saturday, October 17, ahead of his final league away game against Clare and his first Ulster SFC game against Derry at Celtic Park on November 1. .
Meanwhile, the South End of County Kerry between St Mary’s Cahirsiveen and Dromid Pearses has been canceled.
Because it will take place on Sunday, the game was postponed “due to the notification of a Covid issue that arose in the last 24 hours,” South Kerry GAA said Thursday night.
