Monaghan and Roscommon are on the brink of lockdown restrictions with their Covid rates reaching worrying levels.

The government introduced new collection restrictions on Thursday in a final attempt to curve cases ahead of more closures.

Donegal and Dublin remain at level three, while all other counties are currently at level two.

Monaghan, with a rate of 166.2, and Roscommon, 120.8, are now at the top of the restrictions.

Latest updates

Acting Medical Director Dr. Ronan Glynn has urged people to reduce their contacts and socialize in an effort to combat the rise in coronavirus cases.

Thursday saw another big spike in cases after 442 new infections were confirmed.

And worrying numbers were emerging for Cork, Donegal, Meath, Galway and Monaghan, all of which had at least 20 diagnosed cases.

Speaking about the rising numbers yesterday, Dr. Glynn announced that no more than two households should meet at a time across the country as modifications were made to the restrictions.

NPHET also recommended that people should only have a maximum of six visitors from another home to their home and that people can continue to meet socially in other settings, but only with people from another home.
