Two adults and three teens were rushed to hospital after a serious accident in Co Carlow

Five people have been rushed to hospital after a serious accident in Carlow tonight.

A woman in her 40s, a man in her 20s, and three teenagers required hospital treatment after the accident on the N81 near Tullow.

Gardai and the local fire brigade closed the road at 4 p.m. this afternoon after the two-car collision.

At the moment, it is not clear how seriously injured those involved were; they are currently at St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny.

A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí attended a 2-vehicle RTC that occurred in Ardistan, Tullow at approximately 4pm this afternoon.

“A woman in her 40s, a man in her 20s and three teenagers were taken to St Luke’s Hospital with their injuries.”

The road remains closed tonight as a result of the accident and the fire service has warned people to avoid the area.

The Carlow County Fire and Rescue Service previously said: “The N81 is closed between Tullow and the junction with the N80, avoid the area and take an alternate route.”
