Enable’s path to a record third arc became clearer Thursday when Aidan O’Brien eliminated Love, his main market rival, from the fray, but owner Khalid Abdullah’s racing manager, Teddy Grimthorpe, emphasized that his Mare still has a lot to overcome despite the absence of a “huge danger”.
Love had been a longtime favorite for the Arc before ground fears emerged from their camp this week, with Enable usurping her as the market leader on Monday after 19mm of rain last weekend.
With more rain forecast in Paris ahead of Sunday, conditions appear to be tough, forcing O’Brien to halt Longchamp’s aspirations for his filly at the final declaration stage.

The absence of this year’s 1,000-Guineas and Oaks winner has left Enable as the red-hot 5-4 favorite against their 14 rivals, but Grimthorpe insists many threats remain and is turning his attention to the final preparations for the star. trained by John Gosden.
“At the Arch, all the horses are a big concern,” he said. “Love is obviously an exceptional filly and it would have been a great danger, but we are concentrating on Enable and that is our main goal.”
Enable avoided a potentially tricky wide tie when spot positions were assigned Thursday and will start from draw five in a field of 15 runners, one within his spot number when he won his second Arch at Longchamp in 2018 and within the spot. nine, where he was beaten from last year.

6 Road to Paris (Ioritz Mendizabal)
7 Persian King (Pierre-Charles Boudot)
8 Royal Julius (Shane Foley)
9 Golden Journey (Stephane Pasquier)
10 Sovereign (Mickael Barzalona)
eleven Japan (taking of Yutaka)
12 Deirdre (Jamie Spencer)
13 Chachnak (Tony Piccone)
14 Stradivarius (Olivier Peslier)
fifteen Serpentine (Christophe Soumillon)
What impact does the Arc draw have when the race is on soft ground?
Grimthorpe said: “It was a good draw, no question about that. That, of course, does not guarantee anything, but it is a bit of the puzzle.”
O’Brien, who still has four representatives in the Arc with Japan, declared Sovereign, Mogul and Serpentine, is likely to point Love to the Breeders’ Cup Turf, before possible trips to Japan and Hong Kong.
“We had to get Love out right now,” he said. “We actually had no other choice because it would have been a huge fine if we removed it that day and Ryan [Moore] I couldn’t have ridden anything else.
“It’s 4.1 on the GoingStick right now and more rain is forecast for tomorrow and Saturday so we had no choice with it.
“Her whole year had been geared towards that, so it was a tough decision, but we felt we didn’t have a lot of options at the end, as we felt like it could end her for the rest of her season.

“I imagine Love will now go to the Breeders’ Cup Turf, which I think is a $ 6 million race this year. After that, Japan and Hong Kong could be considered. We will discuss it with the guys, but I imagine the Breeders. ‘Cup will be the priority now, it is one of the most important grass races in the world. “
O’Brien added that the plan is “hopefully” to keep Love training next year.
Ryan Moore will now be partner of Mogul, winner of the Paris Grand Prix last time. Mogul was selected in position three on Thursday morning, the same starting place for last year’s winner, Waldgeist.
Christophe Soumillon and Serpentine will have to overcome the widest tie from 15th place. The surprising Derby winner was supplemented for the race for € 72,000 on Wednesday.
Elsewhere for O’Brien, Sovereign (10th place) will be ridden by Mickael Barzalona while Yutaka Take is booked to travel in Japan (11th place).

Stradivarius, Enable’s partner from Enable, is the second seed in Love’s absence and is the only other British-trained rider in the race, but will have to overcome a broad 14th place finish. Gosden nevertheless succeeded. in that same position with Golden Horn in 2015 Arco.
Outstanding Irish rider Shane Foley will ride outsider Royal Julius, who was selected in eighth place, for Jerome Reynier.
The German Derby winner In Swoop, who has received a lot of support from the market in preparation for the race, has broken through the first place, while the main French contenders Persian King (place seven), Sottsass (place four) and Raabihah (place two) were also stated.
Japanese raider Deirdre will be coming from 12th place, with Jamie Spencer looking for his first Arc winner.

O’Brien’s decision to eliminate Love days before the Arc will prove costly for punters before the post, although Paddy Power will refund any single bet on Love as a free bet.
Paddy Power spokesman Paul Binfield said: “Obviously we don’t have to refund Love’s money, but under the circumstances we thought it was absolutely the right thing to do.
“Sure there were reservations on the ground, but the punters who backed it would have been waiting for the historic contest.
“Some would also have been second seed at outrageous prices, so at least they can still have an interest in the race now if they want to.”
