Education Minister Norma Foley will make a statement in the Dáil about errors discovered in the computed grades process for this year’s Leaving Certificate.
The full impact of the bug and the exact number of students affected will only be known when a second review of all grades awarded is completed.
Universities have warned that they do not have the ability to offer places to all students who may receive a new offer from CAO under the improved Leaving Certificate results.
Foley is expected to head to the Dáil around lunchtime today.
Opposition politicians will make statements in response.
They will want answers to a large number of questions, and students want answers too.
Among the unanswered questions so far; when affected students will be informed.
A review will be completed “in the next few days,” Ms. Foley said, and students will report “asap” after that.
Continuing and Higher Education Minister Simon Harris has said the government will “move mountains” to accommodate students who receive a new offer of a place at the university as a result of a Leaving Cert update.
However, the Association of Irish Universities has warned of the challenges that lie ahead in providing additional places.
He says that in some fields there is simply no more space.
