Several counties are at risk of being moved to a level three lockdown in the coming days.
Several areas have seen a huge increase in Covid-19 cases, and Monaghan in particular has seen the number of infections skyrocket.
Acting Medical Director Dr. Ronan Glynn said that Cork, Galway, Monaghan and Roscommon were the four areas that were being closely watched for new restrictions.
One of the key measures used by the Department of Health is the incidence rate of confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants during the last 14 days.
Donegal remains the region of the country most affected by this metric, with an incidence of 204.2.
This is followed by Dublin on 156. Both counties remain under Level Three restrictions.
More areas could soon join, however, with Monaghan reporting an incidence of 135.2 in the latest figures from the Center for Health Protection Surveillance.
Roscommon, with 99.2, Louth, with 80.7 and Kildare, with 78.2, are some other counties with a high number of cases.
And the statistics from the HPSC also show us how many active cases there are in each region with a summary of the number of confirmed cases in the last two weeks.
Outside of Dublin and Donegal, the highest case counts have been in Cork, with 388, Kildare, with 174, and Louth, with 104.
